Fort Detrick Branch members are encouraged to participate in the administration of branch activities. You will find working on committees or being a member of the Executive Committee a rewarding and challenging opportunity. Please remember that you must attend all branch meetings and play an energetic, active role in improving your branch through participation in your role. This often requires a significant amount of additional time and work outside your normal duties. If you don't think that you will be able to make the extra commitment required to help build and maintain the excellence of our branch, please don't run for a position.
Successful elections of nominated members for President, Vice President, and Treasurer, in local branches of COA have usually served as a Committee Chairperson and/or Secretary on a branch's Executive Committee. As an example, to strengthen your chances of being elected, you may wish to complete a successful term as Secretary before considering to be elected for other positions on the Executive Committee.
A ballot will be formed once nominations are closed (16 NOV at 1600), and each Fort Detrick Branch Member can vote once nominations are closed. Election results will be announced on the web and by Email. Candidates are encouraged to submit a brief position statement (Word or PDF file) which should include history of their past service for the Fort Detrick Branch.
The President shall preside over the Branch, at meetings, serve as an ex-officio member of all standing committees, and perform such other functions as specified in the Bylaws. The President is charged with the responsibility of delegating and overseeing the Executive Committee such that the excellence of the Fort Detrick Branch is maintained.
The Vice President shall serve as Presiding Officer officer for the President in absentia and serve as the primary assistant to the President in order to see that the Branch activities are expedited.
The Treasurer shall take charge of the funds of the Branch. He/She shall present annually to the membership a statement of the account of the Branch, which statement will be certified buy the Executive Committee or an auditor as appointed by the Executive Committee. The Treasurer will manage fund raising and monies collected from dues at report such activities at branch meetings.
The major duty of the Secretary is to keep fair and correct minutes of the meetings and send reports of the same to the National COA and the President in a timely manner. He/She shall carefully preserve, on file, all reports and papers of every description presented to the Branch, and shall be charged with the necessary business and professional correspondence. He/she shall read all papers directed to him/her by the President for that purpose; shall call and record ayes and nays whenever they are required to be called.
